IRIS Movie of the Day
At least once a week a movie of the Sun taken by NASA's Interface Region Imaging Spectrograph (IRIS) is posted by one of the scientists operating the instrument.
Multiple flares from AR 13663

AR 13663 was a fast-growing active region in the solar northern hemisphere. It had a complex magnetic configuration and produced several intensive flares as it grew and passed through the solar disk. This movie, captured by IRIS on May 5th, 2024, displays multiple solar flares (C and M classes) from this region. They appear to be associated with the evolution of a small filament (relatively dark features) that existed in AR 13663.
