IRIS Movie of the Day
At least once a week a movie of the Sun taken by NASA's Interface Region Imaging Spectrograph (IRIS) is posted by one of the scientists operating the instrument.
A small flare in AR 12842

A small flare (B class) was observed by IRIS in AR 12842. The slit happened to cross its western flare ribbon (or remote brightening to the flaring region at east). Some interesting cusp-like features near the eastern flaring region can be identified, indicating an ongoing magnetic reconnection process where magnetic field lines change their connectivities and release energy during the process.
