In early June 2021, AR 12831 emerged quickly near the solar limb. As it rotated away from view, it released several flares. In this movie, IRIS captured some of the flaring activity as the active region was at the solar limb. This rare side view of flares shows how the powerful releases of energy give rise to jets, and some of the material falls back on the solar surface.
