IRIS Movie of the Day
At least once a week a movie of the Sun taken by NASA's Interface Region Imaging Spectrograph (IRIS) is posted by one of the scientists operating the instrument.
Microflare in AR 12752

Solar flares have the potential to be the most energetic phenomena in the solar system, however not all flares are large! AR 12752 didn't produce very much activity while it was being observed, but IRIS did catch the occurrence of this microflare. While microflares usually have a smaller spacial extent than their larger counterparts, intriguingly this microflare covers a large portion of the active region, despite its weak energy!
