IRIS Movie of the Day
At least once a week a movie of the Sun taken by NASA's Interface Region Imaging Spectrograph (IRIS) is posted by one of the scientists operating the instrument.
Ribbons of Small Flare

This observation acted as a dress rehearsal for the recent flare sounding rocket campaign (see
https://www.nasa.gov/image-article/two-nasa-sounding-rockets-launch-from-alaska-during-solar-flare/). While the B-class flare shown here was not large enough to warrent a launch from Poker Flats, it did display some beautiful flare ribbons that were captured by the SG slit as it rastered AR 13633. Its close proximity to the eastern limb allows for a unique side perspective into the structure of these phenomena.
