IRIS Movie of the Day
At least once a week a movie of the Sun taken by NASA's Interface Region Imaging Spectrograph (IRIS) is posted by one of the scientists operating the instrument.
Flare in new active region

On January 14, 2022, IRIS captured a flare on a new active region. This active region had just rotated into view from the back side of the Sun, and thus provided a unique view point to observe a flare seen from the side.
