IRIS Movie of the Day
At least once a week a movie of the Sun taken by NASA's Interface Region Imaging Spectrograph (IRIS) is posted by one of the scientists operating the instrument.

Mercury crosses an active region

IRIS caught how Mercury zips across the solar disk and passes over an active region of the Sun where the magnetic field is stronger leading to more vigorous heating of the gases in the solar atmosphere (seen here in a filter that shows gas of 80,000 K).
